Day 151

Bit of a "rear window" vibe to today's photo. Adjacent to my new workplace is a music school, and whilst admiring the view of the city at night I was distracted by the sounds of jazz. I found a vantage point that afforded me a view that had both elements in it,

Monday 29 October 2012

Day 149

Third day working (briefly) in Dun Laoghaire, so I took the opportunity to walk down to the end of the pier, and even though it was a lot longer than I'd thought, I think it was worth it.

Sunday 28 October 2012

Day 148

Another day working in Dun Laoghaire, but being outside today is a very different prospect to being outside yesterday. Cold, dry and sunny always trumps cold, wet and miserable.

Saturday 27 October 2012

Day 147

Early morning in Dun Laoghaire, and the opportunity to take a walk in the cold down around the marina was too good to pass up.

Friday 26 October 2012

Day 146

Pouring rain this morning, and then the sun came out as well. The resulting light was gorgeous.

Thursday 25 October 2012

Day 145

Only a few weeks ago I was lamenting the lack of autumn leaves, and now they're everywhere.

Wednesday 24 October 2012

Day 144

A night at the concert hall, for the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Some Shostakovich, which isn't for everyone, and some Rachmaninoff, which was sublime. Obviously you're not allowed to take photos during the performance, so this must suffice.

Tuesday 23 October 2012

Day 143

A wet night to be working late. Baggot Street can be quite pleasant on nights like this.

Monday 22 October 2012

Day 142

Another early start, and the sunrise was spectacular. Here the early light is hitting a usually unimpressive office building, transforming it into a golden palace

Sunday 21 October 2012

Day 141

Two benefits to working on a Sunday are that parking outside the office is free and traffic is sufficiently light to warrant driving. So, I drove the long way this beautiful morning, and caught this view towards Dun Laoghaire from Sandymount at low tide.

Saturday 20 October 2012

Day 140

Quite a dramatic sky over Three Rock today. I've been experimenting with the DNG files my camera takes: doing two exposures and combining them. This one is a combination of an exposure for the dramatic clouds and an exposure for the horse in the foreground.

Friday 19 October 2012

Day 139

Pint after work: I really liked the clear reflection on my pint from the mirror.

Thursday 18 October 2012

Wednesday 17 October 2012

Day 137

I like working in Georgian Dublin. If I can't work in London, New York, Paris or San Francisco I'm just as happy to work in Dublin.

Tuesday 16 October 2012

Day 136

Naturally enough, as soon as I left the house with my camera the sun went behind a cloud. So, after finding the shot I wanted I ended up waiting twenty minutes for it to reappear. The result: lovely autumn light in the countryside.

Monday 15 October 2012

Day 135

A cold wet night in Dublin, and I'd enjoy the sinister quality of this picture a lot more if it wasn't the front door to my apartment.

Sunday 14 October 2012

Day 134

Running in Dublin can be a grim experience: rain, wind, cold, dogs, darkness and motorists can all combine to make it a hazardous endeavor, and if you don't enjoy running then you'd be better off quitting. Thankfully I do enjoy it, which is just as well, as tonight was cold, wet, dark and windy.

Saturday 13 October 2012

Day 133

First match of Leinster's Heineken Cup defence, and an inauspicious start it was too. Still, a win is a win, and we got our three points. My camera and my seat don't give the best sport photography combination, but I'm pretty happy with this shot.

Friday 12 October 2012

Day 132

Back before it all went horribly wrong on the football pitch we went for rather a nice drink and bite to eat in the Cellar at the Merrion. There was a very nice view of Government Buildings from the stairs on the way out.

Thursday 11 October 2012

Day 131

One of the perks of this job is the occasional opportunity to visit an interesting place that the general public don't get to see. Today I was on the roof of the Four Courts on a recce for a shoot. Grey old day in Dublin, and the dome is covered in scaffolding, but the view is pretty good.

Wednesday 10 October 2012

Day 130

Dusk over Merrion Square, and it's an odd mix of neon light and bright sky.

Tuesday 9 October 2012

Day 129

I found my autumn! The sun was (in and) out this evening, and the leaves were yellow and red and golden. I first found autumn on Raglan Road (where else), but this picture was taken just near Herbert Park. Fifteen minutes later the sun was gone and normal grey was resumed.

Monday 8 October 2012

Day 128

Autumn seems to have happened while I was away: the crisp clear mornings of two weeks ago have been replaced by cold grey wintry days. The commute home was grey and overcast, with only a hint of the yellows and reds of autumn left.

Sunday 7 October 2012

Day 127

I honestly no longer know what day it is, or even which way is up. The flight home from Las Vegas has not agreed with me. I'm not sure exactly when I took this photo, but it was in Chicago, and it was day 127 somewhere.....

Saturday 6 October 2012

Day 126

I love the desert. I hate to leave it!

Day 125

Last night in Las Vegas. Friday is a busy night and it gets dark early, so it's a joy for long-exposure enthusiasts like myself. Fifteen seconds at f16 with minimal post production.

Friday 5 October 2012

Day 124

Last day in Death Valley today, so we took the scenic route out. This is what's left of Ashford Mill: a mill built around 1910 to service a gold mine five miles away. One can only wonder why they chose this spot as it's miles from anywhere. It sure is a pretty spot though!

Thursday 4 October 2012

Day 123

You see the strangest things in the desert. I've been to Death Valley before, and these signs are so totally incongruous they're almost funny. It's hard to imagine that the hottest, driest place in the USA suffers from flooding, but apparently it's a problem sufficient to warrant signs.

Wednesday 3 October 2012

Day 122

Nighttime in Tonapah, Nevada. The moon is almost full which is, for once, pretty annoying as it means that the stars don't come out quite as much. The upside however is that a long exposure can yield some pretty remarkable results. So, there we are, sitting on the road in the middle of the desert in the darkness.

Day 121

A little bit late in posting this, but I've been out of technology's reach for the last thirty six hours. Yesterday was divided between San Francisco and the drive to Yosemite; luckily I got a beautiful sunny day for my cycle to Sausalito over the Golden Gate bridge.

Monday 1 October 2012

Day 120

First day in San Francisco and the hills are amazing. I know it's not an original idea, but I liked the idea if pretending it was flat so as to see how sloped the houses would be.

Full disclosure: I had a better entry for today on my Leica, but I've wifi issues and I can't post it.
